one of those days

30 April, 2007 · 1 Comment

today was completely mind draining and energy sapping.

i was trying to organise medication for someone (who had unexpectedly gone rural) and it felt like i was going round and round in circles and hitting brick walls.After about a million phone calls we managed to organise something and hopefully this will allow the client to stay on as he liked.

it’s amazing how much time can be spent without any evidence of how that time was spent. (does that make sense?)

even though i think there are a number of positives to the exercise – building rapport with client, enabling the clients life to not be ruled by medication, i dont have that normal sense of achievement that comes with solving an “unsolvable” problem.

Inshallah everything will turn out ok, client will get meds, family will be appreciative, pharmacist wont be angry, doctor will be pleased, and case manager will be relaxed.

food, glorious food

16 April, 2007 · 1 Comment

There’s been a bit in the blog world about the recent discovery of pork in cheese flavoured chips.

Another thing we cant eat. Who are these people who find this stuff out and how can we stop them?? I think in the past year there has been so much confusion where I am about what we can/cant eat. Food which is halal one week is haram the next.

In order to rectify any misunderstandings, here is my halal guide:

Chips = Pork

Biscuits = alcohol and/or pig/beef fat

Chocolate = pig fat

Fried chips = beef fat

Bread = beef

Cheese = beef or pig

Yoghurt = pig

Basically any processed food is haram. But especially tasty processed food.

In a way, I think it is good. It might be Allah’s way of keeping us away from harmful things. Like I really need to be able to eat 30 different types of chocolates and fat laden take away food.

On a side note, I love it when we are given lollies at the mosque or something and people check the ingredients and it says gelatine. Everyone is panicking until someone realises: “Oh, it’s made in Malaysia. Phew.”
