thank you, thank you! to my sister for making me my favourite baked cheesecake. i swear, it was the only thing getting me through the day today – knowing i would come home to that.

(bea, i am thinking of you and your milk free porridge as i write this :) )

good things about wearing long sleeves in 30degree plus heat

22 March, 2007 · 2 Comments

(that’s Celsius for my international readers) :)

  • you can lean on anything without worrying about what you are touching or who leaned on it before you.
  • you can look at your tan line on your wrist and pretend you are wearing brown gloves.

weekly thank you

i dont think i’ve ever mentioned him before, but there is this guy at the car park who makes me cringe. when i am running late or think i might like to be early to work (more likely the first one) i will drive to work and park at the privately owned car park – i know it costs me $1-50 extra but it gives me 15minutes extra in actual being at my desk time. (ie by not having to wait for the lights to change to cross etc).

anyways, so unfortunately driving to work has been happening more often than usual. i blame sbs for having bollywood movies on sunday nights, that only end at 12:00am, thus getting my whole week off to a bad start. (and they are bad bollywood movies. i dont know why i am watching them. because it’s there)

so, the carpark has recently changed hands and there is a new guy to take the money when i leave at the end of the day. he really bugs me. no, i meanĀ  really. it gets so bad that i dread having to leave, i reconsider whether or not i need to take the car (which is not a bad thing, i know). why does he induce this feeling of dread in me? he just does.

he always says stuff, like “uh oh, here comes trouble”. ugh!! it’s the end of a long and exhausting day, just take my money, open the gate, and say have a good night!!!

anyway, last week, for whatever reason, (i think he was feeling unwell) he let me go for free.

so thank you to car park guy for that kind act.

interestingly enough, he has not been working there since.

(is it just me, or was that a really ungrateful thank you?)

if i had a tv station… (cue thinking music)

5 March, 2007 · 3 Comments

i would show…

  • family ties. until the younger brother was born.
  • homicide: life on the street
  • all law and order (cause you can never have too much munch)
  • arrested development
  • press gang
  • blue heelers, the early years. I’m a Nick fan, what can i say?
  • ER, the early years.
  • Chicago Hope, the early years. ie before Mark Harmon came on.
  • veronica mars

i’m sure there are more…

to be continued

weekly thank you (belated)

5 March, 2007 · Leave a Comment

no stand out moments of kindness in the past week. (that i can recall).

but i will thank Cadbury for making marble chocolate.

(i’m grasping, i know)

that reminds me actually, i will thank my coworker for that flake bar she kindly gave for the report i wrote up.

which then makes me recall – thank you to my student for her promptness in getting notes in! (i remember how hard that was!)

thank you also to the Imam for the talk he gave last week, you put so much effort into it, as always.

i guess i just needed to think a bit.

hello to the little girl on the bus who happily discussed her “vomit box” to anyone within hearing distance.

if only i had had a ‘vomit box’ when i was younger. the family car trips would have gone a lot smoother.

me, the supervisor

1 March, 2007 · 2 Comments

i am currently supervising a student. this is my first time supervising and i am a relatively inexperienced clinician. (just over one years employment).

i thought i would find it extremely difficult but i’ve suprised myself by only finding it difficult. i am actually enjoying it. the power of molding a future clinician!!

i do find the responsibility huge – i want to make sure my student develops her clinical skills and most importantly that she loves the field of mental health! unfortunately, for whatever reason, at uni, i dont think we get to appreciate how great this area is to work in, so whenever i have the chance of introducing someone to this field, i get very excited. plus there is still a lot of misunderstanding and stigma about mental illness in the community so, i feel like any time i have a chance i have to grab it.

i also find that i tend to over identify with my student, cause i did the same placement, so it is a little familiar.

List time!

positives about supervising

  • learn how much i know/dont know
  • forces my to clarify why i do certain things
  • motivates me to make time to read/research
  • contributing to the profession
  • makes me reflect on my own practice

things i have learnt:

i am a control freak!
